Leadership Philosophy:
I am an extrovert who embraces authentic leadership; however, I understand the need to switch leadership styles as needed.
Professional Information:
I have worked at WKU for 20 years. I am in my fourth year at the School of Leadership and Professional Studies. Prior to becoming full-time faculty, I worked in higher education administration including the Office of the Provost and the Office of the Registrar while teaching organizational leadership courses on a part-time basis. I have organized commencement ceremonies, worked with curriculum development and accreditation, audited undergraduate degree plans, served as the student ombudsman, and managed office staff prior to teaching full-time. During my time in administration, I served in various leadership positions within professional organizations such as the Kentucky Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers and the Southern Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers.
I also worked as a high school English, Drama, Speech, and Journalism teacher. I loved teaching American Literature and Grammar. I am certified to teach grades 8-12. I also have an endorsement for K-12 Educational Technology and a Rank I in addition to my doctoral degree in organizational leadership.
My passion is teaching. I prefer teaching face-to-face courses for undergraduate students and online courses for graduate students. Although, I would love to have all of you in person.
Personal Information:
I am married to another WKU employee, and we have one son. Our son is 19, non-verbal, and has Down syndrome and autism. Therefore, if we do meet or if I share videos, you will notice I am very expressive and talk with my hands. That’s because I have to do that at home and it is hard to “turn it off” when at work. In my spare time, I work with various non-profits. I have been the president of Down Syndrome of South Central Kentucky and New Beginnings Therapeutic Horseback Riding where I’ve also worked to develop team-building training using horses. Currently, I am the advisory board chair for the Suzanne Vitale Clinical Education Complex at WKU.
